HP yesterday introduced its new HP StoreEver Storage tape portfolio featuring sixth-generation Linear Tape-open (LTO-6) technology that the company claimed delivers twice the capacity, and 44% faster performance than LTO-5 in the same footprint.
A fragmented approach to data retention and protection can open organisations to legal and financial risks, HP argued, also suggesting it can result in high costs and management complexities.
"Converged data centres reduce costs and complexities, but require a comprehensive approach to data protection that spans software, disk and tape technologies in order to mitigate risk," HP said.
HP StoreEver Storage, which the company bills as "the industry's broadest tape storage portfolio", integrates HP's tape products and technologies with HP Converged Storage, HP Data Protector and leading third-party backup software.
HP claimed the integration, coupled with new LTO-6 capabilities, enables HP StoreEver Storage to deliver "reliable long-term data protection and retention in a format that meets the needs of nearly any environment".
According to the IDC Branded Tape Tracker CQ2 2012, HP is the market share leader in units and revenue for LTO tape worldwide across individual tape drives and tape automation products.
"Tape storage is experiencing a resurgence as companies struggling with big data archives realise that a fragmented approach to protection and retention can result in added cost and risk," said Walid Gomaa, business unit and sales manager, HP Storage Division, HP Middle East.
"With HP StoreEver's capacity and resiliency, HP's Converged Storage portfolio delivers the industry's most comprehensive and integrated approach to storing, optimising and protecting data, enabling clients to better simplify infrastructure and reduce costs."
The HP StoreEver Storage portfolio supports tape media, standalone tape drives and tape libraries to accommodate more than 44 petabytes (PB) of data in a single system. HP StoreEver libraries feature removable drives and media to accommodate virtually limitless capacity, according to the company.
Nuance Document Imaging Named Largest Global Scanning and Capture Software Vendor for Third Consecutive Year
Company’s Global Market Leadership in Document Scanning and Workflow Solutions Led by eCopy ShareScan and Equitrac
Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, today announced it ranked number one in the worldwide document capture software market in a new study from the market research firm Harvey Spencer Associates (HSA). This marks the third consecutive year Nuance has placed as the leading global scanning and capture software vendor.
The report, called “The 2012-2013 Worldwide Market for Document Capture Software,” found Nuance products captured 17 percent of the overall global document capture market in 2011 – leading all other companies. Nuance’s acquisition of Equitrac in 2011 strengthened the value proposition of eCopy ShareScan, the world’s best-selling document scanning and workflow solution for networked multifunction printers (MFPs), the report stated.
HSA research shows that the Ad Hoc Image market segment has grown due to more sophisticated channel offerings driven by the increased use of networked MFPs in the enterprise. Nuance owns 37 percent market share in the Ad Hoc Image segment, more than four times the amount of its nearest competitor, and leads the competition with a 29 percent market share in Ad Hoc Transaction, defined as demand-based capture that is intended to be integrated into business processes.
“The extension of its leadership in the global document capture software market has resulted from Nuance capitalizing on changes within organizations that are evolving how they manage print and imaging capabilities,” said Harvey Spencer, president of HSA, the leading analysis company specializing in document capture. “We expect document capture to be an area of significant growth as MFP manufacturers seek to add value by offering technologies that improve efficiency and lessen the burden on IT. Nuance is at the forefront of this movement, and through its partner ecosystem, enhances imaging to bring greater understanding to business processes.”
The Nuance MPS software portfolio includes Equitrac print management and cost recovery software, Nuance eCopy ShareScan scanning and workflow solutions, and Nuance OmniPage, PaperPort, PDF Converter Professional and eCopy PDF Pro Office desktop applications. Nuance MPS software boosts personal productivity, increases departmental efficiency and streamlines enterprise workflows. It delivers an end-to-end solution that supports workflows from MFPs to desktop and mobile devices to the cloud.
“Nuance’s leading position in the market for the third consecutive year reinforces the incredible value of our solutions, which offer unmatched document scanning and capture features across our entire software portfolio,” said Michael Rich, senior vice president and general manager of Nuance Document Imaging. “Nuance recognizes that enterprises need to expand their ability to capture and understand information, and we continue continues to make significant investments in its document imaging solutions to meet this demand. We specialize in helping enterprises increase their efficiency and lower their costs as they transform hardcopy documents to digital.”
Nuance has global channel partnerships with nearly every MFP and scanning vendor, including Brother, Canon/Océ, Fuji Xerox, HP, Kodak, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Ricoh/IKON, Visioneer and Xerox – each of which currently sells or bundles Nuance solutions through dealers or as part of MPS portfolios.
